I'm sitting on my hands, just trying to keep still. August 2, this upcoming Monday, is the day I've been working so hard for! On Monday, I'll log on to QSJ, look for the Quit Dates journal and post:
I CHANGED FOR THE BETTER ON MONDAY, JULY 12TH, 2010!!!
I can remember the first time I started looking for help, when I was surfing the internet for tips on smoking cessation. I found a lot of forums, I found a lot of guides, but none of these worked and eventually I found QuitSmokingJournals. When I first registered for this site and started posting, I was overwhelmed by the camaraderie and support here that had been lacking in all the other online "support" groups. I was amazed at the endless stream of positive comments and heart-felt encouragements. I knew this was home.
But three weeks seemed so daunting. I "knew" I could never get through three weeks without even one cigarette. All those seasoned QSJ quitters were mythical heroes to me, having achieved the "impossible". I stopped visiting, ashamed of my own fear and lack of confidence, but the desire inside me to quit smoking grew and grew. I tried over and over to quit smoking, and I managed to cut back, but it wasn't good enough. QSJ had planted a seed, a little nagging thought in the back of my brain: "Smoking WILL HURT you, if not KILL you. You don't feel 100% healthy now, and you're not going to get any better if you keep making yourself worse!"
The seed has blossomed. I wanted my own body to be as healthy and vibrant and youthful as it could be. I wanted to create good habits that would bless me into old age. I wanted a fully functioning toolkit to support me throughout my life--I wanted healthy lungs, heart, and tissues.
Here I am, making changes for the better! Not only do I choose to breathe clean, fresh air everyday, all day, I also choose to eat better foods and listen to my body. Thank QSJ for telling me over and over again that I had it inside me, even if I thought it was dead, to change my life for the better and keep changing!
I changed my life for the better on July 12, 2010.

You're doing fantastic.
A good attitude is 80 percent of the battle and you've got what it takes.
Glad this went to VC.

It is so nice to read your post. A lot of people on this site wish they had been as sensible as you and quit smoking when they were young. Glad to hear that that seed grew and blossomed.
